Monday March 8, 2010: Information and registration meeting

Monday March 8th during the Troop 572 meeting for all interested in registering to be Sea Base participants.

We have been informed by Sea Base that we did get slots for the Sea Base Adventure , not the live aboard.

If you are a certified diver, or willing to earn your certification prior to next summer, this is your program. You will have the opportunity to dive beautiful coral reefs in the Florida Keys. From our fleet of powerboats and our custom-designed 45-foot dive boats, Scuba Adventure participants have discovered and named many of our dive locations. These are known only by our captains and dive masters.

During this adventure (weather permitting) you will be making as many as nine dives, including a night dive. All of these dives are in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Accommodations are in air-conditioned dormitories overlooking the Florida Bay with great meals in the Sea Base galley. The diving equipment supplied for this adventure is new and state-of-the-art.

You must be a certified diver to participate in this program.
Visit the Sea Base web site for a list of medical constraints.
All participants must be 14 years old by July 1, 2011.

During Monday evenings Troop meeting at OLH we will cover the registration process, estimated cost, requirements, pre event participation expectations and commitments, etc. We will also start collecting deposits in which to lock down our registrations.

What is Venturing?

Venturing is a co-ed program created by the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who have similar interests in a multitude of experience areas including but not limited to high adventure, drama and sports.

The focus of Crew 572 is high adventure activities such as those offered at Philmont, Northern Tier and Sea Base. The crew may choose to schedule outdoor activities including canoeing, snow and water skiing, horseback riding, camping, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing and rappelling, orienteering and also to enhance our member’s life experiences with positive social activities, and community service.

Who are we?

Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and members of Troop 572 started Venture Crew 572 as an organization for young men and women in the Potomac Falls , Sterling and surrounding community who are at least 14 years of age, who have completed the 8th grade, and are no more than 20 years of age.

When do we meet?

Venture Crew 572 meeting dates for 2009 can be found on the crew calendar page. Please note that dates and times may change to accomidate the crews activities and schedules.

We are still in the process of recruting additional crew members and creating our annual plan.

What we are about

Our Goals

The four goals of any Venturing Crew are:

  • To gain practical experience.
  • To engage in a program of activities centered on leadership, service, social activities, fitness, the outdoors, and citizenship to encourage the development of the whole person.
  • To experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given opportunities to take on leadership roles.
  • To have a change to learn and grow in a supportive, caring, and fun environment.

The Oath

Each Venturer is required to regularly recite the Venturing Oath which is:

  • As a Venturer, I promise to do my duty to God and help strengthen America , to help others, and to seek truth, fairness, and adventure in our world.

The Code

Each Venturer is also expected to live their life according to the Venturing Code which states:

  • As a Venturer, I believe that America ’s strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people.
  • I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life.
  • I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it.
  • I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life.
  • I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks the truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world.
